When you give to a specific campaign, your donation is restricted: it can only be used for that purpose. General donations can be used wherever the need is greatest, including emergencies.
How we keep funds separate
- Each campaign has its own fund code in our accounts
- Expenses are approved against that code by two people
- Our external auditor tests a sample of restricted expenses every year
If a restricted campaign raises more than it needs, we ask donors' permission before moving the surplus, or apply it to the closest related programme as stated in our donation policy.
